Mom's surgery is tomorrow, not sure of the time. I kind of helped the IV nurse put the PICC line in last night. I basically held Mom's hand and tried to keep her calm. The procedure is actually kind of interesting. The IV nurse said she couldn't have done it without me and that I should have gotten paid for it! As a future doula, that was rather encouraging to hear. Anyway, we were there until 11:00 pm last night. Byron and I came home after visiting Mom today and slept for 4 hours. We're both pretty fried. I would be insane right now if it wasn't for him.

To give you all a break from hearing about Mom's troubles, I just got done watching The Source on the Ovation channel. I'd seen it several times before, and I never get tired of it. I have great affection for the Beats, even though it was basically a boys' club. I would like to see a Beat renaissance, which by the end of the film they intimated was occurring at the time (1999). I honestly have yet to see much evidence of it in this era of celebutantes, "reality" TV and Jackass. I want to know that there are still people out there who aren't afraid to use their brains, who are excited by new ideas, who have too many books, who stay up til all hours in coffeehouses arguing about existentialism. I was born in the wrong era, I guess.
