First of all, once again, THANK YOU ALL. Holy crap, you are the best friends list ever and that's the God's honest truth. [info]byroncaloz is the best husband ever too. I would be in the looney bin right now if it wasn't for him. I love you sweetie - thank you.

Mom was at the ER about 4 hours. They gave her some kind of pain meds that knocked her out for pretty much the entire time. The doctor on call spoke with her primary doc and the surgeon, and it was agreed to prescribe her the Fentanyl patch for continuous pain relief, and get her in next week to see the surgeon instead of waiting til her scheduled appt. on May 5th. We are probably going to be scheduling the amputation sooner rather than later. Our main objective is just keeping her comfortable until then. The surgical wounds are all just about healed, and the swelling in her foot and leg is gone. It's just this damn pain that we have to deal with. The wound care nurse told me that ischemic pain is the worst ever. A part of the body is dying, basically. So, that's where we are right now. We're going to have to start arranging for transportation for her, since getting her in and out of the car is now next to impossible.

In other news, happy 4/20! Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I suppose I should talk a bit about my own philosophy regarding this particular subject. I haven't smoked grass in many years, and then only twice. If it were legalized (and I strongly believe it should be), I might indulge occasionally. I am very interested in psychoactive substances from a religious/spiritual point of view. I wish more people who are into this sort of thing were also interested in entheogenics, but unfortunately the party mentality seems to dominate. Nothing wrong with that in moderation, but "moderation" seems to be a foreign concept these days.

Here's an interesting page on the origins of the term "420".

So - marijuana should be legalized (regulated, of course), industrial hemp needs to make a big comeback (it's utterly amazing stuff with thousands of uses), and we all just need to stop making such a humongous fuss over a plant. Happy 4/20, y'all.

ETA: I completely spaced (heh) my "space cake" experience in Amsterdam 4 years ago. It was right next door to non-eventful. If grass ever became legal, I would much rather consume it that way than smoke it (although I would definitely try to come up with some tastier recipes!!).
