Weekend report
Firstly, to [info]mslashes, [info]smileserena and all the godkids - I'm sorry I wimped out Friday night. I just wasn't feeling very sociable. I would not have been good company. I will make it up to you.

We decided last week to explore our own neighborhood this weekend, and that we did. We live in the St. Johns area of north Portland, and we realized there were some new shops and other things around that we hadn't noticed before, and some places we hadn't been to in a while. We had brunch at Our Daily Bread, then wandered around "bustling downtown St. Johns" and visited Atomic Daylight (new shop selling handmade goods and art - [info]hoarymarmot, she is looking for new artists to display and was excited when I told her about you! I will hook you up if you're into it!), the St. Johns Bookstore, the Men's Shop, Blue Moon Camera (coolest camera shop in town), Belladonna Beads and our old standby the Salvation Army. [info]byroncaloz, being the big history geek that he is, told me all about the building that used to be the post office and is now the local Baha'i meeting house, and we also saw some old photos of St. Johns at Our Daily Bread. It was pretty cool. The Portland Pirate Festival was going on nearby, but we decided to skip it this year (I may end up regretting that). Then we had to stop at Fred Meyer to get cat food, and I got a clock radio for my iPod. Then we came home, fixed veggie tacos and watched Snakes on a Plane (we are probably the last two people in the country who hadn't seen it yet; thanks for the DVD loan, [info]apocalypso23! ). The perfect mindless summer film. Is Samuel L. Jackson the baddest muthafucka alive or what?

Today we went and saw Mom, then came home and cleaned. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is our weekend in a nutshell. Oh, what exciting lives we lead...

Mug shot.

Happy Fall, y'all!

That pirate festival sounds like a hoot!

I love old post offices! The one in the town where I grew up is a huge granite turn-of-the-century building, completely not in keeping with the population or other architecture.
