Yemoja is the patron orisa of the Gelede Society. The Gelede Society celebrates the mothers of the world, the wise women, the powerful women/witches of the world who have the power to either help build society or destroy it. They look to Yemoja because she is the ultimate manifestation of female power and because, therefore, she is the greatest "witch" of all.
